Slow Baja Winter Expedition 2024 - Day 2

Day Two - Heading Down the Baja Peninsula & the Breakdown

The Slow Baja Winter Expedition woke up early to a delicious ranch-style communal breakfast. With everyone full and ready to hit the road, Michael Emery held a meeting of the group to go over our upcoming amazing journey including discussing road and safety issues. He also gave out "swag" bags to all including Slow Baja merch, a Benchmark Baja California Atlas and other sponsor-donated items. Plus Matt had given out Barbers for Baja t-shirts and socks to all last night and today.

Today's route was Rancho La Bellota to Valle de Trinidad for lunch (Valley T Tacos!), then south to San Quintin for a night at Don Eddie's Landing Hotel. Unfortunately, one of our group (Ron) had engine issues outside Ojos Negros. His Jeep was done and his trip was over. Our truck and Matt's waited with him for a flatbed to arrive from Ensenada as the others continued on (we would hope to catch up with them the next day). The Jeep was towed to local Ensenada mechanics and we made the best of it in Ensenada at the San Nicolas Resort & Casino. We made sure he was taken care of and he was able to get back across the border the next morning.

The old rule in Baja, expect the unexpected, is a way of life down there. It was unfortunate for Ron, and us,  as we were all looking forward to getting to know each other better on the trip. Next time amigo!
