Slow Baja Winter Expedition 2024 - Day 9

Day Nine - The Slow Roll to the Border

Upon waking up we knew we had a long day ahead. The plan was for Sammy "El Negro" Diaz to look over the weld, repair if necessary, then hopefully we could drive the five and a half hours to the Mexicali/Calexico border crossing.

Since we weren't meeting Sammy til 8:30, we headed to Campo Archelon and their Siete Filos restaurant for early breakfast and WiFi access. Both campground, cabins and especially the restaurant are fantastic. Highly recommended (see my post on Siete Filos).

After arriving at Sammy's workshop, he took his time and checked the welds. They held and we knew we had a chance to drive home, but it would have to be a slow drive. We also knew that if need be there was a tow yard with a flat bed tow truck at Punta Prieta some 40 miles away at the intersection of Highway 1 and the road to BOLA.

Fortunately for us, we made it back to the border at 45 miles and hour. Unfortunately, it added two more hours to our trip. Once we crossed the border, we limped home but made it. Thankful to be home and thankful for another amazing Baja trip.
